Lifeline Service Information: 3G service upgrades coming
In 2025, Canadian telecom providers are phasing out 3G cellular service across the country. Rogers has provided notice that they will sunset 3G technology this summer. Other telecom providers have indicated they may transition later in the year, but no dates have been confirmed.
Why this could affect your Lifeline service:
If you are still using a 3G Lifeline system when the Canadian telecoms transition to newer service technology, your Lifeline device will no longer connect to Lifeline Canada should you need help.
Lifeline is actively replacing 3G systems:
If your Lifeline system looks like any of the models below, it will be replaced at no extra cost to you.
Next steps if you have a 3G Lifeline system:
If you have a 3G system, we will contact you by email and/or mail to advise that your equipment will need to be upgraded.
Shortly after receiving the first notice by mail, we will ship you a new Lifeline system with easy to follow instructions for activating your new device. Telephone assistance is available if you need help with the activation. We will also include a pre-paid label in your shipment for returning your old 3G equipment back to us.
We ask that you activate your new Lifeline system immediately or very soon after you receive it. This way, you are ready before Canadian telecom companies start to sunset 3G services and your Lifeline service will continue to work.
As always, we are here to support you during this transition. If you have any questions, please contact our Customer Care team by calling 1-800-387-1215. We are always grateful for the opportunity to serve you and honoured to be your trusted medical alarm provider.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Why do I need to change my Lifeline button?
Canadian telecom (providers – Bell, TELUS and Rogers) are phasing out 3G cellular service across the country in 2025. Rogers will start first, and they will sunset 3G services this summer. For this reason, your Lifeline equipment needs to be upgraded at no cost, because it uses 3G technology.
How are you notifying your Canadian customers?
All Canadian Lifeline customers with 3G Lifeline equipment are being notified in the following ways:
First notification will be done by email (if there is an email on file) and by letter (as soon as the Canada Post strike ends)
We will then follow up with an equipment shipment (which will include instructions for activating your new Lifeline device).
Will I be charged more for this new device?
No. Your monthly rate will remain the same. You are going to receive our latest technology at the same monthly rate.
What if I need help with my installation?
Easy to follow instructions will be included with your new equipment. But have any questions when you receive your new Lifeline system, please contact us using our new dedicated toll-free number for 3G subscribers by calling 1-844-344-2124 or emailing service@lifeline.ca
